Anticipation Builds For ‘Independence Day: Resurgence’ With Hemsworth At The Helm

The original “Independence Day”; film made TV’s Fresh Prince a big screen star and helped make disaster films hip in Hollywood. Now, 20 years since the movie first came out, the blockbuster is back with a sequel, without Will Smith. But, lucky for the ladies, it now has a Hemsworth at the helm.

New To “Independence Day: Resurgence”; is Liam Hemsworth, who will be playing a fighter jet pilot trying to save planet Earth. But the 26-year-old tells ET Canada he was a bit too young to watch the original when it first came out: “I was technically six years old and wasn’t allowed to watch it, but we had a VHS copy, watched it a few times.”;

Hemsworth reveals he’s had a blast playing the role of Jake, who is “a lot more outspoken, he’s a bit of a smart a$$.”;

Noticeably missing from this sequel is Will Smith – so what happened you ask? Well you may have to wait till the film comes out, although a quick search on Google will lead you to the film’s website where you might get a few clues about his on screen demise.

Expect to see lots of aliens, explosions and many other familiar faces returning to the big screen, with Jeff Goldblum, Vivica A. Fox and Bill Pullman all reprising their roles. Goldblum reveals: “You’ll see, over the course of this story, that the things we find out, allow us to understand what happened 20 years ago.”;

“Independence Day: Resurgence”; is slated to come out this summer, following on the footsteps of its predecessor, which made a whopping $815 million worldwide.
