Our Lady Peace Ask Fans To Share How They Make A Positive Impact With #MySomethingness

Canadian rockers Our Lady Peace are calling on fans to share the ways they make a positive impact on people in their lives and communities.

After the band released their ninth studio album Somethingness earlier this year, guitarist Steve Mazur made a video documenting his regular visits to an animal shelter, inspiring his bandmates to share their own stories of how they’re giving back through their participation with organizations like War Child, Unplugged North, and coaching youth baseball. Now, OLP are calling on fans to do the same and share their good deeds by using the hashtag #MySomethingness on social media.

The band are encouraging fans to share a photo or video on Instagram of what they are doing to help improve their community or the lives or others or shine a spotlight on another person who has made an impact on their life, using the hashtag and tagging the band on posts. Posts submitted between November 2 and World Kindness Day on November 13 may be featured in Our Lady Peace’s next music video for the track “Head Down”.

“We have the unique opportunity to share stories with so many different people and fans around the world,” frontman Raine Maida said via statement. “We’re often reminded of the incredible selfless acts and contributions everyday working people make to help better their communities and the people that live there. #MySomethingness is all about honouring these good people; shining a light on each other.”

Over the past week we've been inspired by what each of our bandmates has been doing to help out and contribute to their community. "My Somethingness" came up as a term that encompasses doing good, big or small. It means something different to everyone and that's what makes it so powerful. Social media is covered in a 24 hour cycle of negative news and we want to interrupt it with the good from every day people in every day life. We also want to highlight the good you guys do in the new music video for “Head Down” so send in a video of you telling us about and doing your somethingness to mysomethingness@gmail.com for a chance to be featured by November 13th. We also want to see what you guys are doing on social media so use #mysomethingness to post yourself doing good in your community to spread the kindness and break the noise.
