Spoiler alert: Do not read this article if you don’t want to know what happens in season 6 of “House of Cards”.
“House of Cards” fans have known Kevin Spacey’s character Frank Underwood would be killed off in the new season for a while; now, details of his fate have finally been revealed.
The final season of the hit show dropped on Netflix Friday, with Frank’s wife Claire (played by Robin Wright) becoming the lead in the show, taking on the role of the first female president of the United States.
Spacey was famously cut from the series after being at the centre of numerous sexual misconduct allegations.
It’s now been revealed that the actor’s character, Frank, who was first thought to have taken an overdose of his liver medication, didn’t actually accidentally end his own life.
According to TooFab, Doug Stamper, who served as Frank’s chief of staff for years, revealed the character died of a heart attack after he was told the results from his autopsy. Plot twist, though.
In true “House of Cards” fashion, not all was as it seemed as viewers were eventually told that Stamper was the one that killed his boss by mixing up his pills after finding out he was planning to murder his wife Claire.
Stamper told Frank’s widow: “I couldn’t let him destroy everything we built. I had to protect the legacy from the man.”
Claire had been seen making numerous enemies in previously released trailers, with Netflix dropping the final one last month, showing her settling into her new role in the White House.
She insisted to Stamper in the clip: “I’m not going to be told what to do anymore, Doug. Not by you, or any man, ever again.”
