Iggy Azalea is no longer signed to a record label, and she took to Twitter to announce it to the world.
Earlier Saturday, the singer confirmed the news by tweeting, “I’m officially unsigned!!!!” Rumours had been circulating for some time, about the status of her music career. Breaking her silence, Azalea went on to tweet, “Wild you spend so long trying to get IN a record deal… never thought I’d be so elated to be OUT of one.”
One of the things Azalea looks forward to, is releasing independent music; the kind that represents her voice, and her choices. “Now I’m free to release whatever kinda music I like, whenever I’d like woooo!”
While she released her Survive the Summer EP a couple of months ago, fans will have to wait for Azalea’s new tunes. About an hour after her initial tweet, she followed up by adding, “Well still no music this year tho…I am no where near ready direction wise etc with the stuff I’ve been working on and I don’t wanna jump the gun and have some messy era aesthetically.” When can fans expect a new release? “I’m aiming to be ready to share new music early next year!” she declared.
Azalea had first been signed to a recording contract in 2012, when she gained the attention of T.I.’s label, Grand Hustle. Subsequent to that, she was also a part of the Def Jam family.
Hours later, Azalea was back on Twitter, and continued to celebrate her freedom, with a lighthearted tweet, saying, “Yup! Still in the studio! Who need a feature? I’m back on the block. Haha.”
