Drake’s Rep: Rapper Has ‘No Comment’ On Polish Variety Show’s Blackface Impersonation Of Him

Looks like there is a stark cultural difference when it comes to blackface in North American and Poland.

Polish variety show “Twoja Twarz Brzmi Znajomo” welcomed Polish musician Bogumil “Boogie” Romanowski to the stage. “Boogie” performed a cover of Drake’s “Hotline Bling”.

Romanowski’s hair, beard, puffy red jacket, jeans and tan boots were on point. Unfortunately, he took the recreation one step farther by darkening his skin to more closely resemble Drake.

The Polish musician earned cheers and applause from the judges and the live studio audience for his relatively stiff performance. He earned 10,000 złoty (roughly $3,465 CAD) for his efforts with the proceeds going to charity.

The program even shared a photo of Romanowski — still in his blackface — being rewarded for his performance. So do not hold your breath too long for an apology from the musician or the program.

“Twoja Twarz Brzmi Znajomo” challenges Polish singers and actors to impersonate different music artists and began airing in 2014.

Reached by Global News, a rep for Drake would offer no comment.
