UPDATE: Kristin Cavallari’s Brother Died Of Hypothermia, Death Ruled Accidental

UPDATE: Wednesday, Feb. 10 (1:50 p.m. ET) – The Medical Examiner from the Grand County Sherriff’s Office in Utah has ruled that the death of Michael Cavallari, brother of reality star Kristin Cavallari, was an accident, determing that cause of death was hypothermia.

“On November 27, 2015, Michael Cavallari went missing after abandoning his car south of Interstate 70 in Grand County,”; reads the Medical Examiner’s statement. “On December 10, 2015 after an exhaustive search of the area the body of Mr. Cavallari was located. Mr. Cavallari was transported to the Utah State Medical Examiner’s Office in Salt Lake City. The Medical Examiner’s Office has determined the death as accidental with the cause of death, hypothermia from exposure to cold environmental temperatures.”;

UPDATE: Thursday, Dec. 10 (5:55 p.m. ET) – Kristin Cavallari is clearly devastated by the search party for her missing brother finding the body of Michael Cavallari, and she posted a photo of herself and her brother as toddlers, writing, “My heart is in a million pieces.”;

Days after reports that Kristin Cavallari’s brother had been missing in Utah for more than 10 days, police have confirmed that sad news that Michael Cavallari has been found dead.

“At approximately 10:30 a.m. search crews located remains believed to be that of Michael Cavallari.”; reports Utah authorities. “At this time, the body is being transported to the Office of the Utah Medical Examiner for positive identification and to determine the cause of death. The search crews were searching the Salt Wash area, near exit 175 on I-70 in Grand County. The terrain where the body was located is a steep and very rocky area.”;

“We want to thank everyone for their love, support and prayers during this very difficult time. We have just been informed by the authorities my brother’s body has been found,”; the former reality star says in a statement to PEOPLE. “This is a very painful time and we are still processing it all. We kindly ask everyone please respect our privacy during our time of grieving.”;

In a previous interview, a source reportedly close to the family PEOPLE that Michael had a “troubled”; past.

“Her brother was always a troubled kid and there was always drama with him,”; the source told PEOPLE.

According to record from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, Michael Cavallari was arrested on Nov. 23, just days before his disappearance, and spent a short time in jail.

Despite his apparent demons, Michael remained close with his sister.

“She was always very protective of him,”; the source said. “She was always trying to help him. He had been trying to produce reality shows awhile ago, but it didn’t work out.”;
