Brandi Carlile is doing Joni Mitchell justice.
Carlile, a 37-year-old folk-rock singer-songwriter, performed Joni Mitchell’s “A Case of You” on Wednesday’s episode of “The Howard Stern Show”.
Her performance was a tribute to Mitchell on the day of the Canadian singer’s 75th birthday.
“If I can sing ‘A Case of You,’ then I’m learning something,” she told Variety. “So I started covering it just to be brave vocally. And on nights that I feel particularly good, I break it out and sing it. But unless I feel 125 per cent, I don’t even mess with it.”
Carlile is all about Mitchell right now. She joined Kris Kristofferson, James Taylor, Norah Jones, Rufus Wainwright, Emmylou Harris, Seal and others on Tuesday for night one of a two-night Joni 75 tribute concert.
Carlile released her sixth studio album By the Way, I Forgive You earlier this year. It topped Billboard‘s US Folk Albums and US Top Rock Albums, peaked at number five on the Billboard 200 and even charted on the Canadian Albums chart.
