Roots remains one of the most significant, highest-rated TV events in TV history, and the acclaimed miniseries based on Alex Haley’s bestseller will be experienced by a new generation as this historical portrait of one family who endured the hardships of American slavery gets the remake treatment.
The special eight-hour miniseries has just announced its air date, and will play over the course of four days on History starting on May 30.

The heart-wrenching special features a who’s who of star, including True Blood’s Anna Paquin, Laurence Fishburne, The Tudors Jonathan Rhys and Anika Noni Rose.
“Roots will allow new audiences to experience this epic family saga with a new vision that is both incredibly inspiring and tremendously entertaining,” Paul Buccieri, president of History says in a statement. “We are proud that History will be able to bring new life to this incredible story that remains as important today as it did when the original Roots first premiered.”
