A brand new full-length trailer for Alfonso Cuaron’s black and white epic “ROMA” has landed online ahead of it’s Netflix debut.
The highly-anticipated drama from the Academy Award-winning director of “Gravity” wowed audiences and critics at the Toronto International Film Festival in September and is poised to be released globally on the streaming site on Dec. 14.
Set against the backdrop of Mexico City in 1970s amid political upheaval and civil unrest, “ROMA” is a semi-autobiographical family drama drawn from Cuaron’s own memories of his childhood. Choosing to focus on the female leads of his film, Marina de Tavira and first-time actor Yalitza Aparicio, the film is the director’s love letter to the women who raised him.
Ahead of its Netflix launch, “ROMA” will have a limited theatrical run in Toronto at the TIFF Bell Lightbox, beginning on Nov. 29. So far Toronto is the only Canadian date for a theatrical engagement, but more major markets may follow as the film gears up for an awards season campaign.
