A New Zealand newspaper confused comic book legend Stan Lee with film director Spike Lee in its obituary headline.
The Gisborne Herald had the correct image of Stan Lee, who passed away at age 95 on Monday, but referred to him as “Spike Lee” in the headline copy on the paper’s front page.
The “Blakkklansman” director – who is very much alive – took it all in stride, joking about the headline mix-up on his Instagram.
Marvel co-creator Stan Lee would have probably gotten a kick out of the obit snafu – prior to his comic book days, Lee wrote newspaper obituaries.
“I got depressed writing about living people in the past tense,” he previously remarked to EW.
