As an Oscar-winning actress, Viola Davis is committed to her work but taking part in a 28-day cleanse for her new movie was a step too far.
Davis stopped by “The Tonight Show” on Tuesday and told host Jimmy Fallon about how a makeup artist on the set of “Widows” had convinced the entire crew to take part in a cleanse.
“We couldn’t chew, and we couldn’t suck,” the “Fences” star explained. “So we had to sip all of our food because sucking and chewing was an act of aggression, and it was about completing everything, living in forgiveness.”
At first, Davis said she thought it was “awesome,” a chance to release her anger. Her husband apparently thought the idea was crazy but she told him it was going to be a “game changer” for her.
“We had to do it for 28 days; I lasted for two days,” Davis confessed.
The 53-year-old film star explained that she quit because her niece called and “p***ed [her] off so damn bad.”
“I went upstairs, ate a hamburger, went through the drive-thru at McDonald’s… had like a big thing of vodka with soda water, lemon.”
“You went on a bender!” Fallon interjected.
Davis said that the next day she told the makeup artist that she “didn’t have time” for the cleanse. “I got a chip on my shoulder, I’ve always had a chip on my shoulder, and it works for me because if I don’t let this stuff out, I’ma blow up.”
“Widows” opens in theatres on Friday, November 16.
