“Today” show ratings are on the up following Megyn Kelly’s controversial exit last month, it’s been revealed.
According to Nielsen, “Viewership in the key demographic favoured by advertisers in that time period is up around 10 per cent,” Variety reported.
Last week saw “Today” bag a whopping 741,000 viewers between the ages of 25 and 54, beating “Megyn Kelly Today”‘s last week on air, which captured 675,000 viewers of the same age range.
They also added that for the last few weeks, “Today” has mostly been beating its main rival “Good Morning America”.
“Today” viewers were said to have also increased after Matt Lauer, who was accused of sexual misconduct by numerous women, was fired last November.
Viewers certainly seem to prefer a Kelly-less show. See some of the online reaction below:
The news comes after Kelly, who replaced Tamron Hall and Al Roker in 2017, was axed after defending people wearing blackface for Halloween.
Anchors Hoda Kotb, Craig Melvin and Roker replaced Kelly after her exit at the end of October. Jenna Bush Hager has also stepped up.
Opening the 9 a.m. hour, Kotb said at the time: “Today, as you know, we are starting a new chapter in the third hour of our show as it evolves.”
