“Patti Cake$” breakout star Danielle Macdonald is leading “a revolution in heels” in the first trailer for Anne Fletcher’s new Netflix movie “Dumplin'”.
Based on Julie Murphy’s bestselling novel of the same name, the mother-daughter comedy stars Jennifer Aniston as fanatical former beauty queen Rosie and Macdonald as her plus-size daughter, Willowdean (aka Dumplin’), who signs up for her mom’s pageant as a form of protest.
Willowdean’s act of defiance causes stress for her mother, whose world revolves around hairspray and high heels, but it inspires other girls in her small Texas town who previously never had the confidence to enter a beauty contest.
Fletcher, best known for her rom-coms, such as “The Proposal”, is no stranger to female-led comedies, having previously directed the 2015 action-comedy “Hot Pursuit”, starring Reese Witherspoon and Sofía Vergara.
The movie also features a Dolly Parton-laced soundtrack. Parton herself teamed up with Linda Perry to pen six original songs for the uplifting coming-of-age tale.
“Dumplin'” will begin streaming on Netflix on December 7 and hit select theatres.
