Miranda Lambert is happy to have a No. 1 song, but she’s not impressed with what it took to get there.
The country superstar hadn’t had a single reach the top slot on the Country Airplay chart since 2014 until this past August when her collaboration with Jason Aldean, “Drowns the Whiskey”, went to No. 1.
“Yes, I had to sing with someone with a penis to get a number one,” Lambert said in a new interview with The Washington Post. “I do like this person, Jason Aldean, a lot…so it was a great song with an old friend.”
“It is interesting that I haven’t had even a Top 20 in a long, long time. And then it goes No. 1 because it’s a dude,” she continued. “But you know — if we went and looked at how many singles or records were sold for the Top 10 songs right now, I’d probably triple it on record sales. So it doesn’t matter.”
Lambert has had total of five No. 1 hits on the Country Airplay chart, while Aldean has made it to the top a whopping 19 times.
At the 2018 CMA Awards on airing Wednesday, Lambert and Aldean will perform “Drowns the Whiskey” live, with the song also nominated for Single of the Year and Musical Event of the Year. Lambert is also up for Female Vocalist of the Year.
