The first lady of the United States is currently embroiled in a controversy surrounding her role in the firing of a White House staffer, and Stephen Colbert decided to go right to the source to find out all about it.
On Global’s “The Late Show” on Monday night, Colbert interviewed Melania Trump, as played once again by comedian Laura Benanti, and the host could barely contain himself.
Asked about the part she played in the firing of deputy national security adviser Mira Ricardel, Benanti as Melania told Colbert, “You know me. All I want is to end bullying, and if you disagree with that I will crush you like a tiny bug underneath my stiletto.”
“Isn’t this something you should’ve handled with your husband in private?” Colbert asked, to which the fake Melania responded, “Oh Stephen, I haven’t handled my husband’s privates in years.”
That joke was so funny it seemingly caused Colbert to flub his next line. “Stephen, are you okay,” Melania asked.
“No, I’m not okay. This whole thing is very upsetting,” Colbert said, trying hard not to laugh.
