Al Roker’s Thanksgiving Recipe For ‘Sweet Potato Poon’ Sends Twitter Into Hysterics

Al Roker has sent Twitter careening into a collective giggle fit thanks to one of his mother’s favourite Thanksgiving recipes, which he debuted on “Today” on Wednesday morning.

The dish — a super-sweet concoction that combines sweet potatoes, brown sugar, pineapple and marshmallow — captured attention not for its ingredients, but for its name: sweet potato poon.

The dish’s surprisingly filthy moniker (as explained in the Urban Dictionary) was presumably unintentional, and it seems that particular definition of the word may be unknown to the “Today” weather guy; when asked why the dish was given that specific name, Roker explained, “Because that’s what my mother told us it was.”

Roker’s explanation, however, did nothing to prevent unleashing the inner Beavises and Butt-heads within a healthy chunk of the Twitterverse, as numerous Twitter users chimed in with all manner of smart-aleck comments. Here’s a sample:
