John Legend Defends Lip-Syncing On Macy’s Parade Float: ‘We All Have To’

John Legend admits he lip-synced “Merry Little Christmas” at Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade but there is a good reason for it.

Members of the Twitterverse called out the musician for lip-syncing his Legendary Christmas song Thursday on the Build-A-Bear float. Rita Ora was also criticized for mouthing her lyrics.

Ora confirmed Legend’s comments and thanked him for shedding light on the “annoying” situation.

Legend, 39, also complimented the “savage” Macy’s social media team for digging up an old tweet from the singer’s supermodel wife Chrissy Teigen. She tweeted in 2014, “I cannot imagine being bored enough to watch a parade on television.” Macy’s posted a screenshot of Teigen’s tweet next to Legend hyping his parade performance.

Fellow singer Kelly Clarkson chimed in, laughing at Teigen’s unwillingness to watch the Macy’s parade on TV. Clarkson was also in attendance for the Thanksgiving Day parade.

Legend is going on tour to promote his new holiday album Legendary Christmas. The North American tour runs from late November through December and includes one Canadian date, in Toronto on Nov. 27.
