Hillary Clinton has never been popular with right-leaning Fox News, yet one commentator took criticism of the former First Lady, Secretary of State, New York state senator and presidential candidate just a bit too far by comparing her to a virulent social disease.
During a discussion of Clinton’s emails and buzz that she could be considering another presidential run in 2020, the discussion turned to their displeasure over Clinton’s continued visibility.
“She won’t go away,” griped Fox News guest Anna Paulina, director of hispanic engagement for Turning Point USA. “She’s like herpes.”
Paulina’s comment appeared to stun Fox News host Rick Leventhal, who quickly tried to recover. “OK, that is news that we are breaking here. Not appropriate,” he said, immediately shifting gears to a different topic.
Paulina wasn’t shown onscreen again, and the segment was quickly cut short as Leventhal apologized to viewers for “some of the language used in the segment.”
After the segment’s abrupt ending, Fox News anchor Arthel Neville then offered a more formal apology to Clinton.
“We are all Americans, and that is the focus and we want to reiterate that we do not condone the language that Anna Paulina just displayed here, and we apologize to Secretary Clinton for that,” she said. “Fox News does not condone her sentiments.”
