Camille Cosby Gives Deposition: ‘I Got The Sense She Didn’t Want To Be There,’ Says Lawyer

By Brent Furdyk.

The wife of Bill Cosby appeared in court Monday to testify after a judge ordered Camille Cosby to be deposed for a defamation lawsuit, with seven women suing Cosby claiming statements made by his lawyers and representatives portrayed them as liars after they came forward to accuse the comedian of sexual assault.

Following the deposition in Springfield, Massachusetts, reports PEOPLE, lawyer Joseph Cammarata (representing the women) held a press conference, explaining that even though Camille Cosby was present for seven hours, she only gave about two-and-a-half hours of actual testimony. The rest of the time, claimed Cammarata, was taken up with lawyers arguing over what she could or could not say.

“I got the sense she didn’t want to be there,”; Cammarata said, adding that Cosby’s attorneys insisted “at least a dozen times”; that she didn’t have to answer questions due to a rule that disqualifes spouses from testifying against each other.

So what does Cammarata hope to learn from Camille Cosby? She’s “his wife, she lives with him, understands the nature of his relationships,”; he said, adding: “She can observe things. She is a living, breathing human.”;
