Nicole Kidman discusses getting into character for her latest role in “Destroyer” during an appearance on Friday’s “The Graham Norton Show”.
The 51-year-old plays Erin Bell in the upcoming flick, with her character going undercover to infiltrate a gang in the California desert with tragic results.
Kidman explains: “It’s really a tough, gritty film, which is something I’d never done and I am always looking for new territory to explore.
“When you are cast to play the older character you don’t usually get to play the younger, but a great thing as an actor is when you get to play both. It was a gift to be able to arc out the whole story for the character.”
She adds of her husband Keith Urban’s reaction to the role: “My husband was like, ‘When is this going to end?’ As an actor, you take on things and some you can shed and walk away from and others you can’t.
“The character had to seep out of my pores and I didn’t know how to perform that, so I just had to live it. I was a bit of a nightmare!”
Kidman also speaks about the movie in another interview, admitting she’s banned her daughters Sunday Rose, 10, and Faith, 7, from seeing the film.
The actress says, according to the Daily Mail: “She [Erin Bell] destroys those who go after her, and she’s destroying herself. I don’t want my girls to see this,” before relenting, “OK, the girls can see it — when they’re over 21.”
