The 1975 Perform Funky Gospel Cover Of Ariana Grande’s ‘Thank U, Next’

We can always count on The 1975 to put a funky spin on a song and their cover of Ariana Grande’s “Thank U, Next” definitely didn’t disappoint.

While appearing on the BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge, the British band performed songs off of their new album A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships, but also took the time to cover the record-breaking breakup anthem by Grande.

Before performing their take on “Thank U, Next”, the band’s frontman Matty Healy shared with BBC why the group decided to cover Grande’s latest single. “[Grande] is the main protagonist… in most people’s lives,” he said. “She’s had a right old tough time and I like her a lot, and she’s got a great voice. And I don’t. So I’m gonna sing one of her songs.”

During their performance, a number of background singers sung in perfect harmony alongside Healy to create a funky gospel version of the hit song.
