The National Board of Review has announced its annual picks for the year’s best films and onscreen performances, as selected by the organization’s membership of filmmakers, academics, industry professionals and film enthusiasts.

Following Monday night’s Gotham Awards, the NBR is one of the first groups to announce its honourees as awards season officially kicks off, an annual journey encompassing the likes of the Critics Choice Awards, the Golden Globes and the SAG Awards, winding up with the Academy Awards.

For 2018, the NBR’s big winners are “A Star Is Born” and TIFF 2018 People’s Choice winner “Green Book”, with the former’s Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper named as Best Actress and Best Director, respectively, while the latter took honours for Best Film and Best Actor for star Viggo Mortensen.
