The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel herself, Rachel Brosnahan, dropped in to “The Tonight Show” on Tuesday night to dish all about season two of the Amazon Prime Video series with Jimmy Fallon.
“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” swept the 2018 Emmy Awards, taking home four Emmys, including Outstanding Comedy Series and a Best Actress award for star Brosnahan.
Season one of the critically acclaimed comedy from “Gilmore Girls” creator Amy Sherman-Palladino followed wife and mother Miriam “Midge Maisel” as the breakup of her marriage inadvertently led her to discover a gift for standup comedy in dingy Greenwich Village nightclubs, and she’ll continue to pursue her dream.
“In season 2 we find her sitting on this giant secret,” Brosnahan tells Fallon of her character’s covert comedy career. “Nobody knows that she’s trying this thing that she’s got no business doing, as far as anyone else is concerned.”
The second season, adds Brosnahan, “follows the ripple effect of how that affects everyone around her.”
One upcoming storyline finds Midge performing standup in the Catskills, an experience Brosnahan describes as “amazing. We shot in this beautiful resort in Deposit, New York — much more beautiful than the name sounds — but one of my favourite things about this resort, rumour has it years and years ago, the resort turned down ‘Dirty Dancing’. So when we came to them, they were like, ‘Yeah! Get on over here! Sign us up, we can’t miss our shot!'”
In another part of the interview, Brosnahan reveals her big night at the Emmys was not as glamourous as it may have appeared.
