It comes as no surprise that the “Crazy Rich Asians” cast has made Entertainment Weekly‘s coveted Entertainers of the Year list.
Joining Constance Wu, Awkwafina, Michelle Yeoh, and Gemma Chan at the top are Cardi B, Darren Criss and the “Black Panther” women cast members, Angela Bassett, Danai Gurira, Lupita Nyong’o, and Letitia Wright – featured on EW’s four separate covers.
On Thursday, EW revealed their selections for their annual Entertainer of the Year covers. However, rather than just selecting one person, the mag revealed they chose to honour 10 stars on four different covers, after a year filled with “groundbreaking steps towards greater diversity, parity, and all-around originality, there were countless performers who contributed to making Hollywood a better place.”
Addressing the success of “Crazy Rich Asians” and the fabulous female quartet, Chan says, “I love the fact that all of the women are agents of change in their own lives. They’re not waiting to be rescued by anyone.”
After a wildly successful year, Cardi B tells EW about the future, “I’m looking forward to doing anything and everything that I could possibly take on. The only thing that’ll stop me right now is time.”
Meanwhile, the women of “Black Panther” open up about what the power of the Wakandan fantasy means to young women and girls around the world. “It’s never said, ‘Oh, you’re a girl, therefore you cannot. Boys do the maths and sciences.’ That happens a lot in the world today. Girls are not encouraged to go into those fields,” Gurira says.
Appearing on one of the magazine’s multiple covers, Emmy-winning Criss tells EW why he loved playing his character in “The Assassination of Gianni Versace”.
“I think my main interest playing someone like Andrew is, as much as we like to distance ourselves from people we put in the ‘horrific’ box, we have so much in common with these people,” he says.
Throughout the day, EW will be releasing six more of their picks for 2018 Entertainers of the Year on EW.com.
