The Journal of Applied Network Science has published an interesting report on how Hollywood is influenced by its creations.

Researchers found the 1939 classic “The Wizard of Oz” has had the most impact on the industry among more than 47,000 films across 26 genres studied. No short movies or pornographic films were included.

Hitchcock also ranked third on the journal’s list of most influential filmmakers, falling just short of frontrunner George Cukor and second place, Victor Fleming. Popular director Steven Spielberg placed fifth.
