Michelle Obama Cancels Dates On Book Tour In Order To Attend Funeral Of George H.W. Bush

Michelle Obama will be cancelling a couple of dates on her book tour in order to pay her respects to former U.S. President George H.W. Bush, who passed away on Friday at age 94.

On Saturday, the former First Lady shared a touching Twitter tribute to the 41st president, declaring the late politician to be “an extraordinary example for all of us.”

On Sunday, Obama returned to Twitter to announce she was cancelling two scheduled European dates on her tour to promote her new memoir, Becoming, bowing out of dates in Paris in Berlin in order to attend Bush’s funeral.

“I hope readers and ticket holders will understand my decision regarding my desire to attend President Bush’s funeral, and join me in paying tribute to him and his tremendous contributions to our world,” she wrote.

On Saturday, former U.S. President Barack Obama shared a statement on Bush’s passing, declaring his White House predecessor to be a “patriot and humble servant.”
