To the surprise of absolutely nobody, Drake is the streaming superstar of Spotify in 2018 with the most-streams globally.
Spotify announced Tuesday that the Canadian rapper racked up an impressive 8.2 billion streams, not only making him the most-streamed artist this year but Spotify’s most-streamed artist of all-time.
The “I’m Upset” hitmaker also has the most-streamed album and track, with Scorpion and “God’s Plan” respectively, and his song “In My Feelings”, which spawned a popular viral video, came in fifth place on the list.
Drake has knocked last year’s most popular artist, Ed Sheeran, down into fifth place, with Post Malone, XXXTentacion, and J Balvin rounding out the top five.
Post Malone’s hit tracks “Rockstar” and “Psycho” placed at No 3 and No 4, while his double Platinum-selling album beerbongs & bentleys made it to No 2 in the album list.
The late XXXTentacion, who was killed in a shooting this past June, is the third-most streamed artist in the world, with his album ? coming it at No 3, and his track “SAD!” attracting the second-most streams of any song this year.
There are no women in the Top 5 most-streamed artists, but Ariana Grande tops the list for female performers, followed by Dua Lipa, whose self-titled debut reached No 4 in the album list. Cardi B, Taylor Swift, and Camila Cabello round out the top five female artists.
The data shows that hip-hop is the most listened to genre of 2018, though Latin music has seen a rise, with J Balvin and Bad Bunny claiming Top 10 spots.
