During Sunday night’s wrap-up of the 88th Annual Academy Awards, Public Enemy’s iconic song “Fight The Power”; could be heard playing in the background of the broadcast.
While it didn’t seem like a big deal at the time, group member Professor Griff says that Public Enemy is not happy about it and believe their song was used to appease boycotters and put to rest the #OscarsSoWhite movement.

Griff notes the group’s song is all about radical change and “the show can’t claim the Blackness of Public Enemy’s message.”;
However, despite their upset, it is Universal Music who has the rights to license their song, not Public Enemy.
