Rumours are circling around Sean Penn as he travels to Turkey for a secret project.
Many reports claim the actor, 58, is filming a documentary on Jamal Khashoggi, the Saudi journalist who was murdered in the Saudi consulate in Turkey. Khashoggi was a U.S. resident since 2017 and he was killed during a visit to the Saudi consulate in Istanbul to obtain marriage-related paperwork in October.
Turkish media has posted many photos of Penn, with a film crew of at least 10 people outside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on Wednesday.
The Oscar-winning actor was also spotted outside Saudi consul-general’s nearby residence.
The newspaper Sabah says that Penn wanted to meet Khashoggi’s Turkish fiancee, Hatice Cengiz, during his visit.
Later, Penn was spotted in Istanbul as the Turkish government announced that they would be arresting two allies of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman over the murder.
And Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told the media Wednesday that while he was at the G20 in Argentina he pushed the Saudi prince on the subject of Khashoggi’s killing, saying “we need better answers.”
