Andy Cohen told Jimmy Fallon how he accidentally offended both Nicole Kidman and Celine Dion during an appearance on Wednesday’s “Tonight Show”.
Cohen hosted CNN’s official New Year’s Eve broadcast alongside Anderson Cooper last year and revealed he asked the stars some unpopular questions.
The “Watch What Happens Live” host recalled how he’d quizzed Kidman on that viral meme of her clapping at this year’s Oscars, sharing: “So I’m, like, ‘Nicole, when you clapped like this at the Oscars… why did you clap like that?’
“She goes, ‘I think there are more important things to be talking about on New Year’s Eve than how I clapped.’ And the interview went (down) and Anderson was like, ‘What are you doing?’”
Cohen added of Dion: “Celine Dion was on live from Caesars on the stage. I go, ‘Hey, Lady Gaga’s coming to the strip. Do you have any advice for her?’ And she didn’t want to talk about Lady Gaga.”
Despite last year’s broadcast being the highest-watched ever, Cohen admitted he googled it after the show to see if they were trending — something he shouldn’t have done.
“There [was] a headline: ‘Twitter hates Andy Cohen on New Year’s Eve.’ Literally. And Twitter put together 30 of the meanest tweets in a slideshow about me… it was terrible! But we had a blast.”
