Mahershala Ali Uncovers Dark Secrets In New Trailer For ‘True Detective’ Season 3

The hit HBO anthology series “True Detective” is finally coming back for a third season and heading in new directions.

In a just-released trailer for the season, Detective Wayne Hays (played by Mahershala Ali), gets caught up in the mysterious disappearance of two children in the 1980s.

Hays also gets mixed up with Amelia Reardon, a schoolteacher connected to the missing children, played by “Alien: Covenant” star Carmen Ejogo. The two form a complicated relationship stretching over decades as the mystery deepens.

Series creator Nic Pizzolatto returned to write the new season with help from “Deadwood” creator David Milch. Pizzolatto, along with Jeremy Saulnier and Daniel Sackheim, will direct season 3’s episodes. Stephen Dorff also stars as Detective Hays’ partner Roland West.

“True Detective” season 3 premieres Jan. 13, 2019.
