Daniella Anthony and John Drennan didn’t have the best start to their engagement celebrations when they accidentally dropped the ring down a grate.
However, Ellen DeGeneres is here to help.
DeGeneres surprises the British couple on Thursday’s show, with her telling viewers the story of how Drennan had popped the question in New York before losing the ring.
Drennan recalls, “I’d been walking around New York for two days with this ring in my pocket, constantly touching it to make sure it was there and yeah, so Central Park, one of the most beautiful places in New York, it just felt right.”
“We’d literally had the ring maybe six, seven hours,” adds Anthony before Drennan says: “So it slips off in slow motion — I can still visualize this — comes off and bounces once, bounces twice, and then right into that grate.”
The duo explain how heartbroken they were, before the New York Police Department eventually managed to get the ring back.
Drennan says, “I was sobbing. I never want to see Daniella that upset again in my life.
“From joy and happiness to absolute devastation, you know, and I’m trying to pull up at this grate. Those things don’t move.”
The pair are then joined by two NYPD officers who reunite them with the piece of jewellery. Drennan ends up proposing again and this time it all ends well.
For her part, DeGeneres also hands the duo a cheque for $10,000 to go toward their June 2020 wedding costs.
