Christian Hubicki played the social game a little too well on “Survivor: David vs. Goliath”.

The scientist extraordinaire had a staggering 18 votes cast against him on the most recent episode of “Survivor”. Speaking to ET Canada, Christian says he was a tad too social for his own good.

“It’s both flattering and very frustrating,” Christian says of the landslide votes against him. “On one level you think to yourself, ‘wow these people really thought I was a threat.’ As a quantifiable numbers guy I really appreciate it on that level. On the other hand, it feels quite slimy. Why did I have to be the guy that they would gun for so many times that they would throw 18 votes at? Did it really have to be me? Could it not have been Alison? Could it not have been Davie?”

There was a lot going through Christian’s mind when Jeff snuffed his torch. “I thought to myself, ‘don’t do anything embarrassing, just keep yourself together and try to be classy,” he reveals. “Be sure to say something gracious to your competitors, after all, they beat you.”

Christian believes he would have found more success on the island had he developed a better bond with Davie. “I would have soundly come up with a way to work more closely with Davie deeper into the game,” Christian explains. “He came through for me a number of times and I think there were ways we could have made that relationship work even better.”

The castaway’s own insecurities manifested in a very peculiar way. Christian was concerned about being accepted by the tribe. In an effort to be embraced by others he became too popular for his own good. “I should have recognized my social impact on all these players in the game. That my insecurities about being expected by these people would cause me to charm them all to death out of hopes that they would like me,” Christian confesses. “Turns it out worked too well and they all considered me as a threat.”

“I learned that my scientific, engineering and robotics point of view has a wider audience than I could have hoped,” Christian says of being welcomed by the television audience. “I feared how I would be received by other people from other walks of life while talking about robots, algorithms and factorials. How would Carl receive this? How would the Mayor of Slamtown receive it? Turns out quite well. Perhaps I should be more open to the idea I can approach all sorts of people.”

All-in-all, “Survivor” was a net positive experience for Christian. One he would gladly try again: “I would take the opportunity very seriously. I remember so much of the game. I was riveted by the action of it… It was a very transcending an empowering experience..”

“At the same time, I have my dream job now running my own robotics laboratory as a professor at a university,” he reveals.

Survivor” airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Global; you can also catch full episodes online.
