‘Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse’ Earns $35.4M In Its Opening Weekend

Fans flocked to movie theatres this weekend, resulting in big wins for a few opening weekend flicks.

After a Thursday night debut, the animated “Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse” topped the box office earnings with $35.4 million.

The movie, starring Shameik Moore, Jake Johnson, Hailee Steinfeld and more, sees a different take on the beloved comic book series. Teenager Miles Morales suddenly develops mysterious powers that transform him into the one and only Spider-Man. But when he runs into Peter Parker, they realize there could be others with the same special powers.

Clint Eastwood’s return to the big screen came in second place, “The Mule” earned $17.5 million in its opening weekend debut.

Fans are still loving the remake of “The Grinch” after its November opening, the film earned $11.5 million (earning third place) at the box office.

Disney’s “Ralph Breaks The Internet” ($9.85 million) and “Mortal Engines” ($7.5 million) round out the top five.

Next week, “Mary Poppins Returns” is projected to make a big splash on the big screen.
