Despite earlier reports, Meghan Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland, will reportedly not spend Christmas Day with the royal family.
According to People, Ragland, who has relocated to the UK, is not likely to attend the royal family’s Christmas Day festivities in Norfolk, England. Prince Harry and Markle will join Prince William and Kate Middleton and other members of the royal family to spend Christmas with Queen Elizabeth II at Sandringham Estate, the Queen’s country retreat.
Though Markle attended Christmas Day celebrations last year ahead of her wedding to Prince Harry, it is unusual for non-members of the royal family to join the Queen for Christmas. In 2010, despite being engaged to Prince William, Middleton spent her final Christmas pre-marriage with her own family. Sources speculate Markle broke with tradition because the former actress did not have any family in the UK, unlike Middleton. It is unclear where Ragland will be spending her Christmas.
The news comes shortly after it was confirmed that Ragland will not be moving in with Prince Harry and her daughter when the couple moves to Windsor Castle’s Frogmore Cottage following the birth of their child this spring. People confirms Ragland may have rooms set aside for her, but will not be a permanent resident of the cottage.
