Tinashe’s debut album Aquarius was a breakout hit. It sold 18,000 copies in its first week and landed in the #17 spot on the Billboard 200.  That was almost two years ago and fans have been anxiously awaiting a second album from the 23-year-old musical phenom. The wait is over – well, sort of. Tinashe has a new album called Joyride but fans can’t hear it yet.

“Well, the album is facing delays, which many albums do, and right now I really don’t know when it’s gonna come out,”; says Tinashe.

In the meantime, the singer has started her world tour. “I just really wanted people to get excited about the album and introduce some new music to them. I got a lot of stuff in store so I just really want people to be excited about it when it drops.”;

The first single off her upcoming album is called “Player”; and features Chris Brown. Tinashe explains how the collaboration came about:

Says Tinashe, Chris has always been “one of my dream collaborators”; but adds that it wasn’t her decision for this song. “It was the label. It wasn’t me.”;

Tinashe is carving out her own musical niche. Her music is described as a mix of R&B, hip hop and pop and she says she’s fine with not being categorized and “not having to fit into one specific group or box.”;

And she wants other women to feel empowered to blaze their own trail. She explains that in her career she’s only worked with one female producer and one female engineer.  “I want to change that.”;

We have a feeling Tinashe will be able to do just that.
