Halsey caused controversy with her performance on “The Voice” finale Tuesday night.
The 24-year-old sang her single “Without Me”; she was accompanied by actress and dancer Jade Chynoweth who told the story of a same-sex relationship through dance.
Responding to criticism online over the performance, Halsey stood by it:
Halsey also responded directly with sarcasm to a Twitter user who labelled the performance disgusting.
The singer also shared her feelings about the controversy on Instagram, writing that “lots of people angry because we performed the story of a w|w couple and their emotional journey.
“Representation matters,” she added. “I’m proud I got to put this on so many television screens tonight.”
