Universal Pictures is expected to lose more than $50 million on the film. The film’s production budget is reported to be somewhere between $39 and $49 million, according to Complex.

Earning an average of $1,234 per theatre, “Welcome to Marwen” rivals Johnny Knoxville’s “Action Point” as the worst opening for a major studio release in 2018.

“Welcome to Marwen” struggled at the box office on both the commercial and critical fronts. The film opened alongside blockbusters “Aquaman”, “Bumblebee”, and “Mary Poppins Returns”. Furthermore, it currently sits at a paltry 25 per cent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Despite directing movie magic like “Back to the Future” and “Castaway”, “Welcome to Marwen” is filmmaker Robert Zemeckis’ worst grossing movie.
