Queen Elizabeth II delivered her annual Christmas Day message, emphasizing that “peace on earth and goodwill to all” is “needed as much as ever.”

Coming at a time when the British people and government are deeply divided on issues such as Brexit, the Queen reiterated the hopeful message, “Even with the most deeply held differences, treating the other person with respect and as a fellow human being is always a good first step towards greater understanding.”

The message was recorded at Buckingham Palace on Dec. 12 and featured a number of British highlights from the past year, including the royal weddings of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank, as well as England making it to the World Cup semifinals.
