Jann Arden, 56, shared some sad news with fans, revealing that her mother had passed away following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Early Sunday morning, the Calgary-born singer-songwriter-actress broke the news on social media.
Just before Christmas, Arden shared on Facebook that she was travelling to London for the holidays, writing from the airport about the mixed emotions she was experiencing and admitting she “felt lost.”
Added Arden: “I’ve been saving up my tears for my mother — for when she actually leaves the earth. One must pace themselves for these long, slow deaths.”

On Saturday, as her mother’s passing was growing nearer, Arden shared a photo of herself and her mom on Instagram.
Arden had been sharing details of her mother’s condition on Twitter, writing on Dec. 28 that her mother was “gathering up speed to leave here,” following that up with a poem.
Arden expressed gratitude for all the condolences and words of support expressed by her fans.
In November 2017, Arden sat down with ET Canada’s Sangita Patel to promote her memoir Feeding My Mother, in which she chronicles her mother’s Alzheimer’s battle.
“There are those moments where she rises to the surface for me and tells me that it’s OK. And that I’m going to be OK. That I can do this. And that, you know, she’s doing the best she can,” Arden explained.
“I think I’ve learned more about humility, and tolerance, and understanding, and empathy,” she added. “It’s taught me a lot. I’m a much better version of myself than I was two years ago.”
