Kathy Griffin was famously fired from her gig co-hosting CNN’s annual New Year’s Eve broadcast after outrage over her controversial photo holding the faux severed head of Donald Trump, but on Monday she took to Twitter to share some rumours about this year’s telecast and dish about her past money struggles with the cable news outlet.
In a lengthy series of tweets, the former “Suddenly Susan” star shares some “juicy gossip” about Leslie Jones, claiming the “Saturday Night Live” star was “in talks” to have co-hosted CNN’s 2018 NYE coverage, but the deal never came together when CNN decided to “downgrade” her participation; Jones will instead be hosting NBC’s coverage.
Then, Griffin reveals the massive salary disparity between what she earned compared to co-host Cooper.
“I worked my way up by the 10th year at CNN to get a fee of $150,000. By the way, just as a point of reference, Anderson Cooper regularly bragged for years that his annual CNN contract was $10 million a year,” she wrote.
She followed that up by revealing that when she finally asked for a raise, ahead of her eighth time as co-host, CNN CEO Jeff Zucker instead slashed her salary by 30 per cent.
“The first two years I appeared on CNN, it didn’t even occur to me to ask for a salary,” she added. “The 8th year when I asked Jeff Zucker for a raise, he was so angry he docked me 30%. I’m sorry to say I took the pay cut because I truly enjoyed making you all laugh.”
