Isan Elba is following in her father’s footsteps.

On Sunday night, the 16-year-old will act as the 2019 Golden Globes Ambassador, distributing trophies to Hollywood’s brightest stars in film and television. Her father, actor Idris Elba previously won a coveted statute for his work on “Luther” back in 2012.

ET Canada’s Carlos Bustamante caught up with Isan during the show’s preview day at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, where she opened up about her role in this year’s ceremony. “I’ve seen my dad do stuff like this,” she shared. “So, it’s not foreign to me. But doing it myself? You know, it’s a different ball game.”

According to Isan, her father hasn’t exactly been forthcoming with tips and tricks for handling the spotlight. “No, not really,” she revealed. “I’ve been up since like 5:00 am doing press and stuff, and so he just texted me. He’s like, ‘Do good.'”

Isan turns 17 the night before the big show, and she’s excited to celebrate with an A-list crowd. “I’m just considering this like my birthday party,” she joked.

While the rest of the world rejoiced when her dad was named “Sexiest Man Alive” late last year, Isan was less than thrilled. “I was actually looking forward to seeing who it was,” she explained. “So when I woke up…I usually check Instagram, so I was like, ‘Okay, who is it?’ And I was like ‘Idris Elba? Come on!’ Like I was just looking forward to it. Why would you do that?!”

After Coachella’s big reveal, Elba says he’s excited to DJ even though the announcement was met with criticism.

“I know, I know. I’ve been catching some heat,” he told Entertainment Tonight’s Kevin Frazier.

He continued, “‘Oh, he’s a DJ now?’ But I’ve been a DJ since I was 14, but Coachella is, like, a lifetime dream for any DJ. I’m so excited! I can’t wait. I can’t wait.”

When asked if she’ll be there, Isan wasn’t so sure. “We’ll see, you know, I can’t miss school, but I might miss school – it’s Coachella,” she laughed. “I just have to convince my dad.”

The timing of the announcement is interesting, as Netflix just released their first look of Elba in their new comedic series “Turn Up Charlie” — in which he plays, you guessed it, a DJ.
