Scott Disick has come under fire for sharing what some are calling a racist photo of his daughter Penelope.
In the photo of Disick and his six-year-old daughter at an Asian restaurant, Penelope pulls a face, holding up her eyelids as she poses for the snap. Disick sits beside her holding a pair of chopsticks.
The “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” star, who shares Penelope (along with sons Mason, 9, and Reign, 4), with ex Kourtney Kardashian, posted the photo Thursday on Instagram.
Khloe Kardashian did not directly weigh in on the conversation but she did like a response posted by her f2iend, Los Angeles-based publicist Nguyen Romulus.
Some fans, however, found the photo offensive, and accused the little girl of mocking Asian culture, while calling out Disick for sharing the pic and not setting a better example.
“Tell her to stop being racist,” wrote one commenter. “That’s racist behaviour… the dad should have known better… period,” said a fellow user.
Another added: “Poor judgement posting this photo. Do I think he is racist? No. Do I think many people will find this hurtful and racist… yes.”
“Why the F is his daughter doing that? Eating Asian food and being racist???” another fan exclaimed.
However, not everybody saw the image as offensive, with some fans defending Penelope’s gesture as simply a kid making a silly face.
“She’s a little girl! It’s not racist! Calm down, she’s holding her eyes UP! Every 5 year old doesn’t make funny faces when getting a picture taken!” wrote one fan.
“Racist to whom? What race is she targeting by holding her eyes open? Lmao what a joke,” another user added. “She is literally making a silly face. Everything is racist now of days. Ridiculous.”
“You clear [sic] do not have children… My kids make faces like this all the time and not one time have they ever said look mommy [I] look like an Asian person… I have no idea what they’re doing, they’re just being silly,” another user chimed in.
Disick has yet to respond to the backlash.
