Glenn Close was just as shocked as Twitter with her win at the Golden Globes.
During Sunday’s live broadcast, Gary Oldman stepped out to present the Best Actress – Drama Film category, with many fans hoping Lady Gaga would take home the trophy.
But “The Wife”‘s Glenn Close swooped in with a surprise win, earning herself a third Globe.
While Gaga’s loss shocked fans on Twitter, Close’s acceptance speech quickly turned sour viewers in Close’s favour.
“We have gotten to know each other a little bit so far, and I can’t wait to spend more time with you,” she said through tears. “I’m so – everything that you did this year, or what you are here for – we all should be up here together, that’s all I can say. Oh, my god, I just don’t believe it.”
She then dedicated her award to her mother while telling all women watching, “We have to follow our dreams. We have to say, ‘I can do that and I should do that,'” which caused the entire audience to get out of their chairs.
Her fellow nominees included Gaga (“A Star Is Born”), Nicole Kidman (“Destroyer”), Melissa McCarthy (“Can You Ever Forgive Me?”) and Rosamund Pike (“A Private War”).
