Rami Malek had a hugely successful night at the Golden Globes, winning big for his movie “Bohemian Rhapsody”, but that wasn’t enough to help him gain the attention of Nicole Kidman.
After accepting the award for Best Actor in a Drama Film earlier in the night, Malek returned to the stage with the “Bohemian Rhapsody” cast and crew to collect the trophy for the Best Drama Motion Picture.
However, the stage was so busy that Malek got lost in the crowd and, in a hilarious moment, the cameras caught him reaching out to embrace Kidman, who unintentionally snubbed the “Mr. Robot” star, turning her back to him as he placed his hand on the small of her back.
Kidman, who was on stage to present the award, was so caught up in the moment that she didn’t appear to notice Malek trying to engage her in conversation.
While Malek might have gone unnoticed by the stars on stage, eagle-eyed viewers picked up on his super cringe-worthy moment.
Earlier in the evening, Malek beat out Bradley Cooper (“A Star Is Born”), Willem Dafoe (“At Eternity’s Gate”), Lucas Hedges (“Boy Erased”), and John David Washington (“BlacKkKlansman”), in the category for Best Actor in a Drama Film for his turn as Freddie Mercury in “Bohemian Rhapsody”.
“I’m beyond moved… My heart is pounding out of my chest right now,” he said in his emotional acceptance speech. “This is a profound honour to receive this, and to be counted among such extraordinary actors… I am privileged to be counted among you.”
He also thanked the late Queen frontman, saying, “Thank you to Freddie Mercury, for giving me the joy of a lifetime. I love you, you beautiful man. This is for, and because of, you, gorgeous.”
