Janelle Monae’s Futuristic ‘Screwed’ Video Featuring Zoe Kravitz, Tessa Thompson Tackles Social Issues

Though it’s set in the future, Janelle Monae’s latest music video for “Screwed” is tackling some current social issues and post-U.S. election depression.

With “Big Little Lies” star Zoe Kravitz on vocals and Tessa Thompson along for the ride, Monae’s new video for the pop-anthem is part of her film project, “Dirty Computer – An Emotion Picture”.

The video opens with Monae and friends waking up on a deserted rooftop. The crew run through abandoned buildings, dodging drones, before ending up at an underground dance party.

“You f***ed the world up now, we’ll f*** it all back down,” Monae sings in the video, which features visuals of the Statue of Liberty, fires, and protests; “Creed II” star Thompson is whisked away by police in a hovercraft.

“Screwed” is featured on Dirty Computer, which is nominated for Album Of The Year at the 2019 Grammys, held next month.
