Global will commence the last chapter on “Mary Kills People” as the critically acclaimed drama starts production on its third and final season.
“As we begin production on the final instalment in the ‘Mary Kills People’ saga, we’d like to thank both eOne and Cameron Pictures for their collaboration in bringing this story to life,” said Lisa Godfrey, vice president of original content, Corus Entertainment.
“Our appreciation and gratitude extend to the profoundly talented cast, crew, and creative team for helping Global deliver audiences one of our most insightfully thought-provoking dramas.”
The Canadian drama series stars Caroline Dhavernas as Dr. Mary Harris, a hospital worker who has a side business as an “end-of-life counsellor” that sees she and her partner, Des Bennett (Richard Short), provide assisted suicide.
Across the series, Mary and Des are investigated by Detective Ben Wesley (Jay Ryan), who complicates business for the two entrepreneurs. The third season will pick up from last season’s shocking finale that left Ben’s fate up in the air.
Joining the cast are Canadian actresses Elizabeth Saunders (“Alias”, “Grace”) and Rachael Ancheril (“Rookie Blue”, “Wynonna Earp”). Saunders will play a nurse who causes problems for Mary, while Ancheril stars as a patient at Mary and Des’s new “death retreat”.
“From its inception, ‘Mary Kills People’ has been a creative thrill ride. Working with Cameron Pictures, Global, and the outstanding cast on this series continues to be incredibly rewarding,” said eOne’s Jocelyn Hamilton.
In a joint statement, executive producers Amy and Tassie Cameron said, “We are so grateful to our viewers around the world for joining us on this incredible run of ‘Mary Kills People’.”
“We are extremely proud of this series and of our amazing cast and crew who work tirelessly to bring this show to life, and we’re excited to deliver a thrilling, surprising, emotional final season.”
The official synopsis for the final season reads:
“In the third and final chapter of ‘Mary Kills People’, Dr. Mary Harris must come face-to-face with her own personal choices, ethics, and demons in a way she never has before. The death retreat is up and running, but its cover as a legitimate hospice is crumbling away and with it the idyllic vision Mary and Des had for continuing their work in quiet secrecy. With Mary’s family and the work she loves in jeopardy once more, she realizes she is finally going to have to put life, with all of its complexities and imperfections, first.”
The six-part third season will air on Global in spring 2019.
