Ricky Gervais has some experience hosting awards shows, and now he’s giving the Oscars producers some tips.
REALTED: 2019 Oscars Will Have No Host For The First Time In 30 Years
Following the controversy over Kevin Hart stepping down as Oscars host due to old homophobic tweets, there have been reports that the show might opt to have no host this year at all.
Gervais, who hosted the Golden Globes from 2010 to 2012 and again in 2015, endorsed the idea on Thursday night.
The “Extras” creator also tweeted the idea that perhaps he should take on Oscars hosting duties himself.
“I should host The Oscars. Not because I’m the best person for the job. No way. But simply because I couldn’t give a f**k about any previous tweets,” he joked in a now-deleted tweet with a photo in which he was giving the camera the middle finger.
In another deleted tweet, Gervais wrote, “This is Ricky’s PR person. I have decided to run this account as I can’t trust Ricky not to say the wrong thing and jeopardise his reputation and career. After all, he is a proper white trash, crackhead, atheist C**t.”

Reaction to Gervais’ comments on Twitter was decidedly unimpressed.
