For the second year in a row, British-Kosovan singer, Dua Lipa, has topped the nominations at the Brit Awards.
The awards which honour the best in British and international music have nominated Lipa for four awards this year. In 2018, she also came out on top with five award nominations. She ended up winning two- for British female and British breakthrough artist.
Lipa shares this year’s honour with Essex pop singer, Anne-Marie who is nominated for British female and British album, as well as song and video nominations for 2002, co-written by Ed Sheeran.
Anne-Marie’s album ‘Speak Your Mind’ was the top-selling album in the UK for 2018. Overall it came in at 26th.
Other artists under British female are Florence + the Machine (also a best album nominee), Lily Allen and Jess Glynne.
Lipa’s four nominations fall under just two hit songs. Both IDGAF and One Kiss are up for British single and British video.
The international nominations were also a tough call with most coming from Canada or the United States.
Jay-Z and Beyonce are nominated as The Carters under International Group, along with First Aid Kit, Brockhampton, Chic & Nile Rodgers, and Twenty-One Pilots.
Canadians Shawn Mendes and Drake both grabbed nominations for International Male.
International Female will be a tight race with Cardi B, Camila Cabello, Ariana Grande, and Janelle Monáe all in the running.
