Michael B. Jordan is giving back to his hometown as the new global face of fashion label Coach’s men’s line.

The “Black Panther” star, 31, made the surprise trip to Barringer High School in his hometown of Newark, New Jersey, as part of Dream It Real, Coach’s philanthropic initiative through the Coach Foundation, which focuses on supporting youth. “Good Morning America” captured his visit to the school, with Jordan sharing the importance of arts education in schools.

Jordan, 31, met with and mentored high school students during the event, co-hosted the student-organized talent show, and signed a motivational mural in the school.

“Empowering young people is deeply important to me, and being able to work with the students as an honorary Dream Director at Barringer – in my hometown of Newark – was an experience that I will never forget,” the actor says in a statement.
